Well, this particular user does not even have a .pref file. Is it created when an user logs in or when user clicks the Options-link?
Not possible. It is created upon first login. Are you looking in the right place or for the right username? SM won't even work w/out one, but that might explain the problem you're seeing. You're not using vlogin or multilogin to change data directories or anything weird are you?
You can also install the Debugger plugin and ask the user to report any errors it shows, but this is very risky on a production system.
