can you remove MailScanner from the picture? Use sendmail instead of smtp.

can you send message to your own address and compare headers of received
message with headers of message stored in Sent folder. Sent folder
contains message that was feeded to your email server. Received message is
the one that is already processed by your email server and local delivery
agents.
