I've got SquirrelMail on my Mac OS X Server machine (was installed with OS X Server); I also have a separate machine running EIMS as my mail server.
I've got SquirrelMail active on the machine, but can't login to any of my mail accounts. Here's what I did:
I set the domain, SMTP server, and IMAP server all to my mail server's domain name. When I try to login, I get "Unknown user or password incorrect" message, although I know that the username/pw are correct and have verified them.
Verify that EIMS is running an IMAP daemon and that your SM is configured to use any authentication protocols needed to connect to it. If none are needed, you can test it from your OS X machine by telnetting to the server yourself, which is what SM will do.
telnet <imap.server.address> 143 a01 login <username> <pwd>
Is there something I've overlooked in order to use SM in the manner that I'm trying to do? When I read the docs for OS X Server, it said that I could use an external mail server, which is what I'd like to do...
it will work; you just need to synch address, port number, protocols, etc.
