depends on definition of usable and on how borked php install is. You can break squirrelmail with mbstring overloading. You can break squirrelmail with php ./configure --disable-all There is a chance that some plugins don't work with latest squirrelmail version. There is a chance that you will have issues with EIMS. SquirrelMail is ussually tested on php register_globals = off and some functions might break with rg=on.
