In fact it was selinux that caused this. If i set
/etc/selinux/config to disabled, the problems vanish.
Since the default during install of FC3 is enforcing,
I would imagine this will be a common issue.
What is a sensible recommended policy? The default is
-rwxr-sr-x root smmsp system_u:object_r:sbin_t
sendmail.sendmail
