Error opening ../data/default_pref Could not create initial preference file! ../data/ should be writable by user apache Please contact your system administrator and report this error.
This appears to be a common error. I've checked and checked again the data directory permissions. Apache is running as user apache and group apache. I have chmod 777 the directory. But I still get this error no matter which permissions I use. Scouring the internet and support docs on the squirrelmail site doesn't bring up any other possible causes. I've never had this problem not been able to fix the problem by just making the privleges the user and group that apache runs on. Any ideas on what this may be?
I'm running on Fedora Core 3 with squirrelmail version 1.4.3a, PHP 4.3.9, apache 2.0.52
