The easiest way to make this error go away is to CD into the data
directory, and create your own file... for example:

cd /var/squirrelmail/data
touch default_pref

I was working with somebody on IRC today, and it appears that one of the
package systems not only removes the data directory from under SM's
default folders, but doesn't put a default_pref file in there either.  I'm
going to take a look into making it so that file is no longer a
requirement.
