SquirrelMail 1.4.4 won't fix your problem.

You have to contact people that created broken email message and ask them
to fix their program. Program violates rfc2045 chapter 4.

"Messages composed in accordance with this document MUST include such a
header field, with the following verbatim text: MIME-Version: 1.0".

When MIME-Version header is missing, imap server does not provide correct
structure of email. SquirrelMail must know correct structure.

In some cases email might be displayed correctly, if you enable "Show HTML
Version by Default" option in display preferences.
