Don't use an 'catch all' account!

not (and never have) existed. This email account gets hundreds of messages a
day, which I then have to review
and clear out.

Seems you've nothing else to do!

because there is no delivery failure. We are a school, so parents get kind of
irate when they think a teacher
is ignoring their emails.

I use sendmail. All those SPAM got a message like:
 - 553 5.7.1 Rejected: 222.64.191.166 locally listed in rbl
 - rejecting commands from [163.23.54.1] [163.23.54.1] due to pre-greeting
traffic.

In a week it accumulates THOUSANDS of messages.

Yeah. Keeping an admin happy!
Person: I'm having a problem...
Admin: Sorry I'm busy fighting SPAM... No time for you!

No squirrelmail problem. Ask your admin to solve the problem!
