I downloaded several plugins into my squirrelmail directory which happens
to be /usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/. Then I used the ./conf.pl to
update my config.php.

The plugins I have installed are change_passwd, calendar, jsclock,
compatibility, virus_scan. others were already there by default.

Problems:

1. When I log into my mailbox, I am only able to see a link for calendar,
no link for change passwd. Is this normal for change_passwd plugin? What
have I missed out?

change_passwd link is on options page

2. When I click on Options, there is nothing. Before these installations
there were all the options there that a user could set. Could someone help
me interpret this as well?

you probably have php errors but do not have them set to display. see item number three here and give more information next time:

Possibly virus_scan plugin. Get real server-side filtering instead of putting the onus on PHP for such things.
