My suggestion is that you don't change the HELO name. You should not use the 
HELO name as a criteria for permitting mail to be sent through your mail 
server because the HELO name can be faked. 

I don't know how the Mercury mail system works but there should be a way of 
configuring it to allow based on the IP address of the sender. Us the IP 
address of your SM box to allow it to send mail. If you are positive that 
nothing else in your network (and no  customers) are using that same HELO 
name then you should be able to deny anyone using that HELO name after you 
permit your own hosts (assuming first match wins with mercury).
