You can try that, but it may be the wrong way of addressing the problem
(which you seem to understand).
Could you please provide us with information about the IMAP server you
are using (Courier, Dovecot, uw-imap, etc..) and which version of Apache
and PHP you are running and which OS/distro you're running? Chris Hilts
suggests ensuring that server-side sorting and threading if your IMAP
server supports it, I definitely agree. You should also consider using
Maildir if your IMAP server supports it, as it can provide a significant
performance boost, especially when dealing with huge mailboxes.
Sorry. UW-Imap, squirrelmail 1.4.4-1.FC3, on FC3 with php 4.3.11 &
apache 2.0.52
I can't see any documentation about how to make uw-imap do sorting and
threading.

I have one user who is getting errors when trying to read, send,
delete, or compose messages, but most users are working fine and
without error. Since he doesn't tell me when exactly he's trying, and
we can't re-produce the errors, I'm having a hard time figuring it
out. I do have these errors in my log
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted
(tried to allocate 225725 byte
s) in /usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/html.php on line 84, referer:
https://isp.emji.net/webmail/src/right_main.php?P
G_SHOWALL=0&sort=0&startMessage=1&mailbox=INBOX
It's not always the inbox or html.php, it's a variety of functions.
Should I just up the memory php is allowed to use? That doesn't seem
sensible, isn't 8M standard? Might that be what's causing all his
problems?
