Hello,

I am getting this error message when trying to view some emails. It
doesn't happen with all emails. Sometimes emails sent from the same
account will have the error, sometimes not.

My setup:
I have installed SM 1.4.5 with PHP 4.4.1 with no plugins and also
tried with SM 1.4.5 with PHP 5.1.1 (CGI). The PHP version does not
help with the problem. Apache version is 1.3.33

I have also tried SM 1.5.1-cvs (january 10th 2006) with PHP 5.1.1.
While
this setup runs far much smooth than the upper version, it still comes
 with this error message:

The mailserver is an external one from Schlund+Partner. SM runs on a
webserver and connects to the mailserver. I do not know the
configuration of the emailserver :(

I found one entry in the maillinglist with a similar problem, but
only similar not the same, and it did not really help me. Here it is:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=13231369

Now to the error:
At the top of the SM window after clicking on certain emails to view
them it says:

Body retrieval error. The reason for this is most probably that the
message is malformed.
*Command:* FETCH 2200 BODY[1]
*Response:* OK
*Message:* UID FETCH finished.
*FETCH line:* * 104 FETCH (UID 2200 BODY[1] NIL)

Then it shows the normal top with: Current Folder: Inbox and
'compose' 'addresses' 'folder' 'options' 'search' and 'help' and so on.

Then it shows the email like this:

Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]
squ irrelmail-users-admin%40lists.sourceforge.net>> Delivery-Date:
Wed, 11 Jan
2006 12:12:59 +0100

... removed rest of email ...

This is really an annoying problem. I would appreciate any help.

Contact your service provider and ask to provide details about used
IMAP server.

If you want to avoid talking to provider, try connecting to your imap
server with telnet and show us greeting and capability response.

for example:

telnet your-imapserver 143

Trying x.x.x.x...
Connected to your-imapserver.

* BYE Courier-IMAP server shutting down
A02 OK LOGOUT completed

If server's greeting does not provide any identification strings -
contact your provider. If greeting shows "IMAP server ready H somename",
contact your provider.

'IMAP server ready H'. Read last sentence in my previous email.

This imap server or proxy has known issues with SquirrelMail. We are
unable to locate manufacturer of this software. Server is used by 1&1
Internet service provider. 1&1 support services refuse to provide
information about used software to unrelated third parties.

Contact your provider and ask for information about used imap server
software.

Hello,

After first saying that it is a squirrelmail issue, my provider has finally agreed that it is a problem with their IMAP server. They haven't provided me with any information about the used IMAP software, they have only said, that they will look into it and (hopefully) get the problem solved.

Thanks for reading and answering my emails. I will send a quick post, when it will be possible to use Squirrelmail with Schlund+Partner (1und1) without any issues.

Have a nice weekend

With regards
Sam
