I think what you need is the Archive Mail plugin. You can read about it here: http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=121 It allows you to download a selection of mails as a zip archive. All you would have to do is. 1.) Install plugin 2.) select and download the messages you want to archive with the help of the plugin 3.) delete the mails. done.
