You have chosen to disable icons, so a non-breaking space ( ) is used for the sort indicator. It is underlined because its a hyperlink. I don' think SQM ever auto-magically sized the left pane, if that's what your suggesting. However, its possible that the exact formatting of the tables, etc was changed slightly with the introduction of templates in the left pane. I'd suggest simply changing your default left-column width. Check Options > Folder Prefernces.
