This has already been answered, but I thought I would throw my 2¢ in,
just in case the user is still confused.

squirrelmail is a mail client -- not a mail server. It happens to run on
the server and present a web interface for users to access, but it then
connects to and depends on the server side mail software -- pop, imap,
sendmail, etc.

If you connect to your mail server via squirrelmail, then you are using
squirrelmail as a client.

If you connect to your mail server via outlook, outlook express,
thunderbird, eudora, or whatever, then squirrelmail has absolutely
nothing to do with your mail connection. Your settings in those
applications depend entirely and only on how your server administrators
have set up pop, imap, sendmail, etc., and can vary widely from one
system to another. We, for example, have a wiki web page telling our
users how to set up their configurations for various clients.

So, that's why you have to contact your system administrator regarding
outlook express and why the squirrelmail list can do very little to help
you.
