Thanks very much for this. I don't understand how to set individual folder
preferences for checking the mail. (Perhaps this is another part of 1.5.2
which I don't have installed?)

However, by using the 'user-special-folders' plugin and defining 'Junk' as
a special folder, this new version of NewMail seems to do just what I want
whenever it is set to only check regular folders.
