Who tells "sendmail" the unbalanced address?

        mail -s ping root

does work, it doesn't need a complete address.

May be. But until now I have noticed no other program doing that.

Ok - I can tell all my collegues "Paul says it's not SquirrelMail". But  
maybe they answer "Ok - we'll take another program". That's not the way  
I want.
