I hate to follow up to my own thread, but I did find 5.3.8 and still get the same error. I have also noticed that if I:
/usr/local/sqwebmail/libexec/authlib/authdaemond stop /usr/local/sqwebmail/libexec/authlib/authdaemond start
The user can log in for awhile.
That's the bug. vpopmail fails to clear a memory buffer where the last login name was saved. Which can, naturally, be reset by restarting the whole application.
Check with the vpopmail list. I might've forgotten the exact version when this bug was fixed. It might be the current development version 5.3.38, instead of 5.3.8.
