and you need at least 5.2.2 (or some recent 5.3.x, I don't know what the
minimum x is for a working solution)

Once you have upgraded, you will need to recompile courier.

If you compiled courier-imap --without-authdaemon, that would explain it.
Otherwise, maybe you have more users on webmail than POP? The problem occurs
when a user logs in with a long username, and then another user logs in with
a shorter username (but they hit the same authdaemon instance, so there is
only a 1-in-5 chance of that). You could try doing your POP3 test repeatedly
alternating long and shorter usernames.
