I've coded mine to use a domain.dat file in each virtual users cgi-bin.
It would be a trivial matter to have it use a ENV variable set in the
httpd.conf.
(for Apache) if anyone is interested in this let me know what version you
need and I will write a patch for you. Just dont want to write a patch for a
version that is no one needs
