information in from field

I am still trying to figure a way to limit the from
field to just the e-mail address.  I am using authshadow 
and the program is getting its information from the /etc/passwd 
file.  Problem is it is also showing the comments that are in 
file.  All I want to display is the email address ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
in that field.
HELP
