Ok - I did the following steps and what's weird is that the delete icon in
the readmsg.html screen doesn't actually kill the last message. I had to
click on the check box and delete it "by hand".

Everything works fine other than that - maybe AT&T Broadband was testing a
transparent proxy today (?) I've heard of other providers doing this as of
late.

In step b, the deleted message should've been permanently removed from the
folder index. In step c, only one message should've been shown in the
folder.

Repeat this experiment, modifying it slightly. Deliver two empty messages
to the account, log in, select INBOX, open message #1. With message #1 on
the screen, click on the trash icon to mark the message as deleted. Then
click on "Folders", then on INBOX.

If the folder still contains two messages, and the first one is NOT marked
as a deleted, then the problem is a broken proxy somewhere between the
client and the server.

When a message is marked as deleted, the folder index is immediately updated
whether or not the message is deleted from the folder index screen, or after
the message is opened. If you still see two messages in the folder index,
it must be because some proxy is dicarding the no-cache: header on all pages
served by sqwebmail.
