Try a big, expensive, monitor.  At least 1280x1024, a resolution of 
1600x1200 would be even better. 

In the rare situations where fonts of a specific size must be use, font size 
should be specified in points, not explicit pixel sizes.  Both Windows and 
X-Windows have an adjustable points-per-inch setting, to some degree, so 
that rendered text would have roughly the same absolute size at any screen 
resolution.
