as a follow up here - i removed the code and went back to my original

Obviously it's clear something is wrong with the code and my version of OS,
GPG, or a bad option in the code -- my env worked and then didn't work, so
I'm ruling that out.
Sam, any ideas? Let me know if there's anything you need me to do to send to
you. I'll try and go thru the configure options adding and removing some as
I go until I figure out what is broken.
