You must remember that sqwebmail does not depend on vpopmail to work. There
are other auth solutions that sqwebmail uses, so personally I don't find it
brain dead at all.

Sounds like you have a reasonable employer. Never use development code in a
production enviroment. Be patience and wait for a stable release.
