Here's what I did:
./configure --with-cachedir=/var/run/sqwebmail --enable-webpass=vpopmail --w
ith-module=authvchkpw --enable-https --enable-logincache --enable-imagedir=/
usr/local/www/data/webmail
make configure-check
make check
make install

Then I put a script in rc.d/ to start the authdaemond. I can't find any
logging file to locate where the probelm is. I checked if the authdaemond
process started with ps and it was runing. But I don't know if authvchkpw
is actually being used.
My vpopmail was started with tcpserver and it called the vchkpw password
checking daemon. This works fine, but it seems, sqwebmail cannot access the
password files that vpopmail is using for some reason.. Also I do not use
system passwords all, email passwords are in the vpasswd file in the
domain/ directory. I'm guessing I have to point sqwebmail to this file
somehow, how make it call the vchkpw daemon for authentication.
... but how?
Thanks.

Yinka
