when you read an e-mail (spam) that fetches images out of a remote
server, it tells the sender "hey, i'm here, that's a human's address,you
can continue sending your junk to me!". That's the lesser evil. Much
worse is when , with a carefully crafted URL , and most notably when you
use MS Explorer, a remote server can inject malicious code which will be
executed by your computer. That shouldn't happen, we all know that. The
fact is, it does. That's why ALL mail reader programs shoud allow the
user to disable downloading of remote content. Most don't and thats a
shame.
