Well, here's what we did:
1) Move all mail field entries to mailAlternateAddress.
2) Change sqwebmail's LDAP_MAIL entry in authldaprc to "mailAlternateAddress"
3) Put a notice on the login page that you must login with your EMAIL
address instead of the login name.
Not optimum, but it works OK. Took some thinking to figure this out, though.
