i guess ultimately what i don't understand is why three other webmail servers (squirrelmail, imp, twig) on the same server have no such problem. I realize that they go through IMAP protocol to talk to the server. But the fact that attachments can be downloaded with them without issue suggests it's not a problem with my server (encompassing hardware, OS, libraries, qmail installation, et al), or the client's browser (if this were a bug in MSIE, it should be triggered regardless of the underlying transport [imap vs direct-disk]), right? wrong?
