I've also hit the same problem: sqWebmail has no trouble authenticating
system users (with the authpwd, authpam and authshadow modules), and it
authenticates virtual domain users for "a while". (About 1 day.). Then I
need to stop and start authdaemond to get it to authenticate virtual domain
users again.

I've recompiled using --without-authdaemon as you suggested.
Now what do I need to do to use only the authvchkpw module ??

TIA,
Micha
