Well, you could try running the same versions of all components, and using
the most recent ones:
sqwebmail current version: 3.5.3
courier current version: 0.42.2
courier-imap current version: 1.7.3, or 2.0.0 if you're prepared to hit your
users with an incompatible UIDL change

I don't use vpopmail but there are known bugs in the version of vpopmail
you're running; the standard advice on this list seems to be to install the
current version and recompile.
You might be advised to upgrade Apache to 1.3.27 while you're at it.
