We are using sqwebmail here in Japan. We've applied the japanese patch (from http://www.tom.comm.waseda.ac.jp/~ichi/sqwebmail/) and written our own Japanese templates, which work quite well. However, we've got some problems.
The main problem is that even though we've set --enable-unicode and --enable-mimecharset=utf-8, as well as setting the CHARSET to utf-8,messages written in iso-2022-jp or Shift_JIS are not getting transcoded to utf-8, and often subjects are being mangled.
utf-8 email seems to work fine.
Has anyone got some insight on how the encoding works with sqwebmail? What is the state of the encoding code in sqwebmail these days? Does it reliably transcode text from arbitrary encodings to the display encoding without requiring me to apply ichi's patch?
Whats the known bugs and problems likely to be encountered in a mixed-language environment?
Thanks,
Nathan.
