I am now able to login with this account every time so far. Although in the past it always seems that the auth issues pop back up after some time. But, that was the old version of everything and this time it was only one address. Hopefully now that this account works all will be better.
What I found was I simply needed to double check everything and it worked. I did: /$ $VPOPMAILHOME/bin/vaddomain -v and found that 5.4.0 is installed. I recompiled sqwebmail, double checking the configuration. The thing I think has been holding me up since getting that right was simply restarting the daemons. It's almost like I have to do all the right things in exactly the right order or it doesn't work : ). At least I hope it works now, I won't be certain until this person logs in without trouble for a week or so. vqadmin still reports vpopmail as version 5.2.1 but that does not seem to be significant. I have updated the faq entry for people who sometimes need a little reminder to do the obvious stuff:
I get intermittent authentication problems with vpopmail

This is a known problem with vpopmail 5.2.1 and earlier. You need to upgrade to 5.2.2 or later, BE SURE to recompile courier-imap/sqwebmail, then DON'T FORGET to restart both sqwebmaild and authdaemond.
As a workaround, instead you can just recompile courier-imap/sqwebmail with the flag "--without-authdaemon". However that's less efficient.
On Tue, 2004-05-04 at 13:02, Dave Kettmann wrote: > Jake, > > Please post what you find if you get it to work.
