Do you have the libssl compiled from sources to provide static libaries?
I noticed that the debian building rules have:
```
export LIBSSL_STATIC_SRCLIB=yes
```
That should be only when libssl in compiled locally. I commented it and I got
the deb packages built on the system where it failed last time we discussed.
