You're welcome and thank you for taking a look at this PR.
The window that exposes the problem is very tight. Initially, needed to add
usleep() in and around the loop to isolate it.
The systems I'm running in production do not have the characteristics to
trigger the problem and so, have not tested the PR on production traffic over a
longer time. The logical analysis and recreating the problem with synthetic
loads and then showing that it was resolved under similar and even higher loads
leads me to consider the PR to be a fix.
