Hello, I'd like to set up encrypted FTP (just the command channel would be
fine) via SSH forwarding. The FAQ only mentions one thing about
FTP via SSH, and that's to start up a SSH session to somewhere else and
use -L to enable port forwarding. But this requires one to establish a SSH
session and maintain it, which isn't suitable for our use since we'd want
this forwarding to always be available.

Which brings up the other question: If I'm on host A and I open a session
to host B with the command "ssh -g -L 666:ftpserver:21 B", it connects me
from A to B, and sets up a FTP forwarder as a side effect. Does this
actually encrypt the traffic between A:666 and ftpserver:21, or does it
just provide forwarding? I'm not very great with tcpdump or I'd answer the
question myself...

What's sftp-server? It's not covered in the FAQ or the man pages...

If I get enough leads to put this all together, I promise I'll submit a
nice and easy HOWTO to the list... :)
