But you do need to make sure that your syslog.conf has 'daemon.debug'
pointing to some log file;  that's where the SSH debugging messages go
(assuming you're using the default SyslogFacility value of DAEMON).

(I'm referring to SSH V1 here;  I don't know about V2).
