Hi,
I'm suffering from the same problem, but I've not resolved how to stop
it (save good mail filters...) Therefore I'm cc'ing this back to the
list and to ssh-owner at clinet.fi (just my comments, the list is
probably set up in the best way for its intended usage)
I think it's to do with something in the mailing list config. The list
should probably be set up so that only subscribers can send to the list,
the majordomo who command is disabled (so you can't spoof being
subscribed) and that the reply-to headers aren't re written (see
http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html). This way the list
become more enclosed (you can't spam the list unless you are subscribed,
and spammers can be unsubscribed by the list admin)... however if the
reply-to headers aren't rewritten it means that however sends a message
to the list will get the responses to failed deliveries reported to
them... not the list (A pain for list management)
One way or another, it seems, there is always going to be some noise on
a public list.
