I, for one, port forward 143 and 25 so I can point my mail client
at localhost, get compressed and secure mail conversations, and
yet not deal with "spoofing" issues in sendmail on the other end.
Another good port I forward is a connection to some of the
databases I use at work.
Saves me having to fire up a VPN for simple things.
