Either disable pam support "configure --without-pam" and in that case you
probably need to enable md5 passwords (I didn't see which linux distro you
run but I think many use md5 passwords now), you do this with "configure
--with-md5-passwords".
If you want to use pam you'll have to insert the right config into the
pam.d which I'm sure the FAQ or someone else might help you with.
