Sounds like you need to install Win98 on all your Win2k boxes. (Just
kidding.)

I would try the following: disable all the services that are running on
your Win2k box(I mean most), then close any virus software, and other
software that is also
running. Now remove any additional protocols you may have such as IPX,
Netbui, etc.. Now try to make a connection with ssh2, if this helps then
most likely one of them is conflicting with the software and slowing it
down. Those darn DLL's.

Good luck, let us know if you figure it out.

Hi ssh list,

I have been experimenting with using ssh2 (v2.3 from ssh.org for Win32
running on WinK) to forward IMAP to a linux imap server (port 143).

I notice that performance is abysmally slow. I do this and run a
netscape
mail client, I find that clicking on a message the delay before it is
displayed is several seconds!

If I then do a direct connection, on the same machine, i.e. bypassing
ssh2 forwarding performance is instantaneous.

Is this a known problem with SSH2? Something to do with small chunks
of data? (A typical imap request to download a message is probably
small).

Anything I can tweak to speed it up?

I have tried it now on 2 different win2k boxes and get the same effect,
if I try on a win98 box the problem goes away!

thanks

Karl
