Hi,
we have a lot of hackers at our university.
I was forced to install openssh on some of our
linux machines and it worked nicely (although
I must say the installation process is not
very transparent to me).

Now I have a strange problem: One of the machines
had to change its name. After changing the IP
address and hostname, I couldn't log in anymore
via ssh.

First I thought, it's just that the host
identity files have to be regenerated.
I did that and it still doesn't work.

When it was still working, ssh would ask for a
password and would let me log in. Now I get
the message

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

I get no chance to enter a password.

I should add that I have openssh 2.2 running
on the client and openssh 2.1 on the server
(the latter is the machine with the changed ID;
it runs RedHat Linux 7 and the ssh running there
is the one which comes with the distribution).

I have looked through many man pages and HOW-TOs
but haven't found any hint on where the mistake could
be.

If anybody could tell me roughly in which direction
to search, I would be most grateful.

Regards,

Dirk
