Thank you, Christa. It appears, then, that the list is effectively
running derelict with an unmaintained and buggy majordomo installation.

I recommend that, if/when SSH Communications Security, Ltd. migrates
this list to a different machine, that it considers Mailman
(http://www.list.org/), which allows members to manage their settings
via Web interface (and optionally can also be administered entirely that
way). By default, it blocks non-member posts, which would tend to
eliminate almost all the spam this list encounters. By default, it also
intercepts misdirected administrative mails (e.g., "unsubscribe" ones)
sent to the list address, redirecting them to the list owner. By
default, it sends out a periodic reminder e-mail, telling subscribers
their passwords for setting options. By default, every post gets a
footer reminding everyone how to unsubscribe (which _works_, in its
case).
It also has a (not great, but adequate) built-in Web archiver. The
major notable omission is a search engine for the archiver, which can be
added in using third-party software -- such as http://search.mnogo.ru/
-- which, unlike setting up Mailman itself, is non-trivial. (Doing
majordomo to Mailman migrations is a piece of cake.)
Here's an example Mailman setup: http://lists.svlug.org/
Given admin access, I could perform the necessary migration and put the
current majordomo setup out of our misery. (I've administered both
types of lists.) I'd be glad to do that, to help fix the current
situation, incidentally helping out those subscribers wanting to leave
the list.

My mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] _was_ delivered -- but did not get a reply.
I will be trying various measures (off-list) to get something done
sooner rather than later.
