i had the same problem recently with openssh on solaris 2.8.
(i forget the version of openssh, i think it was a really recent
one).
what i did that seemed to fix it was to recompile openssl
from source(the existing one was installed via a package
by someone else) removed the existing openssl, reinstalled
the new openssl, removed the existing openssh and recompile
it from scratch against the newly compiled openssl and
it no longer hangs:
bash-2.03$ ssh -V
OpenSSH_2.9p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090601f
OpenSSL> version
OpenSSL 0.9.6a 5 Apr 2001
bash-2.03# gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/2.95.3/specs
gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (release)
i compile my openssh with quite a few options, none of
which i think affected the 'hanging' but if you wanna know
what they were lemme know i can see if i can dig them up.
