I saw the same symptom when I used OpenSSH 2.5.2p1 on HP-UX 9.0.  I never
found a solution to it.  (Since then, I've upgraded the server in question
to HP-UX 10.20, so the problem is no longer a concern for me.)

The nature of the problem seems to be that the pseudoterminal driver is
not being put into its normal mode by the ssh server.  As a workaround,
it should be possible for you to issue the command "stty sane".  (As
you observed, you will have to use Ctrl-J instead of Enter.)
