Elevated vs on the ground:
I doubt if you will find many of us "geriatric" steamers willing to crawl
around on the ground to do much steaming. Secondly, and in my mind most
important, elevated tracks get the trains up closer to the eye of the viewer.
In many cases we are trying to please an audience of 'non-steamers' and maybe
get a convert or two to join our ranks. I think it is much more pleasing to
be able to see the sides of the trains rather than see a lot of box car roof
tops, etc. Isn't it much more interesting if the audience can actually see
some rod action (if you run them slow enough, that is) closer up than to see
some snakes in the grass?
Keep your steam up!
