Dear Steve, I read your idea on how to bore out the aluminum block for the smoke box. What you are going to, rotate the bar while holding the block steady will work. But first rough out the hole/bore with drill bits if you have drill press. Then take light cuts (.003") with your boring bar. Wet the aluminum with any oil you might have available where you will be machining. This is very important when machining aluminum. Even Mazola oil will keep the aluminum chips from welding themselves to the cutting tool.
