PeteH,

That's a no no. Aluminum bronze should not be used as bearing material. It
has a poor coefficient of friction when used with hard or soft shafts. This
bronze, if made correctly, is difficult to machine. It's supposed to have
9% to 11% Al. in it. It has a hardness of about 280 to 320 BHN. Ordinary
cold rolled has a hardness of about 190 BHN. For bearing service you need a
bronze that has lead in it like SAE 94. I can't find that specification in
my latest hand book so they might have changed the number. You have to have
a higher lead content in the bronze for it to work well as a bearing.
