Hi there, Taken many an IP cylinder apart and it takes about 30 seconds...I have attached some pics that explain it better than I have have words for but...
1. hold piston rod in protected vice jaws so you can twist off the little brass end. 2. Put cylinder on sharp edge of vice...JUST the cylinder...have the end cap hanging over...Tap end of piston rod...it does NOT take much to pop it off...I have allways wondered why under steam they don't pop off. 3.Put back on in reverse order. I hope that helps...they are a wonderful piece of machining.
